Mobile companion

The phone app is InHive for the walk between meetings: reply in chat, see what is on your plate, and get a banner for a DM, an @mention, or a reminder you set. Boards, calls, invoices, Documents, and hive settings stay on the website or the desktop app. Opening the app shows the white hive mark on dark wax while it starts — the rounded app icon stays on the home screen.

On iPhone the bar at the bottom is the system tab bar: Home, DMs, Activity, and More, with Search as its own button on the right. On a current iPhone that bar is the glass one iOS draws. Home is a house, DMs is a paper plane, and Activity is a bell. More is three larger dots. The selected icon and label are honey. On Android the bar is still a frosted pill, Search is a round button beside it, and the selected item sits on honey with a white icon and label. My Work is not on that bar. Home opens with a card: a My Work pill, a short daily line written for you, and the conversations you keep coming back to. DMs, Activity, More, and My Work put the screen title on that same gradient, under the clock and out to both edges, with rounded bottom corners. When chat is not on this hive, that card sits on Activity, without the conversations. In a conversation the name sits in a glass pill on a clear frost, so the thread can show through to the top of the phone. A direct message shows that person’s photo in a circle in the pill. A channel shows # in a circle. Back and the call button beside it are circles. On a current iPhone the message field is the same glass as the bar. It stays one line until you tap it; photo, file, and mention then sit under the text, with send on the right.

  • Home — A card fills the top of the screen, behind the clock and out to both edges, in the same warm gradient as the website. Your daily line sits under a My Work pill, when this hive has written one. Otherwise that space stays empty. The pill shows how many tasks are overdue, or how many are due today when nothing is overdue. When neither is true, the pill is just My Work. Tap it for the full list. Along the bottom of the card are the conversations you both open often and have heard from recently — a person or a channel — with a count when something is unread. A person shows a green or amber dot before their name. Tap one to open it. That card stays where it is. A honey row under it means a channel call is already going and you are not in it (tap Join). Team and project channels sit below and scroll underneath the card. The ones with the newest messages sit higher. A project with sub-channels has a chevron on the right: tap it to hide the children (unread from those rooms moves onto the project row). Open a row to read and reply.
  • DMs — 1:1 messages, newest first, in compact rows. The latest message sits under the name, with when it was sent on the right. Profile photos there, and beside messages, are smooth squares. The photo in the name pill at the top of the conversation stays a circle. Search opens a conversation with someone.
  • Work — tasks assigned to you that are not finished, grouped by when they are due: Overdue, Today, This week, Next week, Later, and No date. A week runs Monday through Sunday. Time and Project, under the title, group those tasks by due date or by project. A task with no date stays off the list, unless it is on the support project. Check off a subtask from the list. Open a task to read it: the number stays in the header, the title sits under it and wraps, then status, due date, and label on one line, then the description and comments. Edit is in the header. Save appears when you change something. Tap a photo to open it, then pinch or double-tap to zoom and drag to look around.
  • Activity — the same bell list as the website, grouped into Today, Yesterday, This week, Last week, and Way back. A week runs Monday through Sunday. Each row says how long ago it happened, the same way as the website (1h ago). Tap a row to open the chat or the task. When that task is completed, its title has a line through it. Mark all read shows when something is unread.
  • More — Account for your profile, My Work for the tasks on your plate, Settings for how the app looks, About for the app name, who makes it, the version, and the copyright. On iPhone, Sign out is at the bottom of Account. On Android, Sign out is at the bottom of More.
  • Search — find a person, a channel, or a task on your plate. The field is ready when Search opens, with the keyboard up. On a current iPhone it is the same glass as the message field: a search icon, and no extra row of buttons. The circle on the right closes Search and returns you to where you were. Before you type, a picture sits in the middle, with a short wide line under it.
  • While the app is open you show as online, the same as the website and the desktop app. A few minutes without a tap, or switching away, marks you away. Sign out and you go offline. Green and amber dots on Home, people, and DMs match the hive.
  • Chat still needs a Studio (or higher) platform plan. Send a message, or attach a photo or a file. On iPhone, + opens recent photos and videos, and the latest thing you copied. The picture appears in the message field right away, with a spinner until it has uploaded. When there is something to send, the chevron beside Send can hold it until later. Waiting messages sit above the field; send one now or cancel it. Long-press a message and a sheet opens at the bottom. On iPhone it has no title. The circles are the five reactions you use most, and one more that opens the rest. Remind me closes that sheet and opens the times, including a date and time you pick. Copy message puts the text on the clipboard. On iPhone, Forward message to… lists your direct messages. Choose one, then Send. Search on that list also finds channels. On a message you wrote, you can also edit or delete it. On iPhone, Delete is red. Delete asks you to confirm. With the keyboard open, / after the attachment button lists commands. Giphy shows GIFs to choose; the one you pick plays from Giphy and is not saved as a file. In a channel, mention someone with @, or @channel to notify everyone in that room. A direct message does not offer those — it already goes to the other person. Tap a photo to open it, then pinch or double-tap to zoom and drag to pan. Tap a PDF to read it on iPhone, then share to save a copy. On Android a PDF opens the share sheet. Tap a text file to read it. Other files open the share sheet. Posted time is relative, the same as the website (five minutes ago). Tap a web address in a message to open it in your browser. On iPhone, tap anywhere on the message field to type, and drag down on that field to put the keyboard away. The message field stays above the keyboard. While someone is writing, a short line sits on that field and the thread moves up to make room. It goes away when they clear what they wrote, or after they stop for a short while.
  • Account (under More) — your name, timezone, language, email alerts (the same switches as the website), and what this phone may banner (DMs and @mentions). Those phone switches do not change website or desktop-app banners. Chat display follows you.
  • Settings (under More) — Light, Dark, or Auto. Auto matches the phone.

Sign in with the same email and password. If the hive offers Google or Apple on the website, those buttons show here too. Forgot-password, create-hive, and invitations still open in the browser.

A sleeping phone can still banner a DM, a chat @mention, a task @mention from someone else, or a reminder you set on a message. DMs and mentions use their photo with the InHive icon on the corner (or their initials if they have no photo). Tap the banner to open that conversation. If that chat is already open on this phone, it stays quiet. Your own messages never banner this phone. Assignments, standup, and deadline risk stay in the inbox and email — they are not a lock-screen interrupt.

Turn DM and mention banners off under More → Account → This phone. That allow-list is stored on your profile so the hive can honour it when the app is closed. It does not change Browser on the website or Desktop in the desktop app. Phone delay on that same screen (and under Account → Notifications on the website) can wait 30 seconds, or 1, 3, 5, 10, or 15 minutes, before the banner is sent. If you open that chat or notification on the website or the desktop app during the wait, this phone does not get it. Calls still ring right away. A reminder you set still arrives. Set one from the message sheet. Schedule a message from the chevron beside Send.

From a conversation, tap Call. The first time, the phone asks to use the microphone. Allow it. After that, Settings for InHive shows Microphone. A direct message rings the other person. A channel call starts, or joins one already going. While a call is open and you are not in it, the header phone turns orange with JOIN, and the same control is on the message that says who started the call. That message scrolls with the chat. When the call ends, the icon sits where a portrait would and the words line up with the messages. A call you joined leads with the duration. A call you missed leads with Missed. The time sits beside that label, the same way a message shows when it was sent. Who was on a finished call is listed under it. A missed direct message has no list. Your microphone is on; turn the camera on from the call if you want video. Flip uses the other camera. Audio opens the system list for where the call plays. The phone uses its own voice processing. Background-noise filtering from the website does not run here. You can watch someone else’s screen. The phone does not share its own screen.

The chat icon on the call puts it away and opens that conversation with the keyboard up. While the call fills the screen, the keyboard stays down. A honey strip under the status bar shows headphones and a chat icon. On iPhone the screen moves down to make room for it, so the conversation’s name and buttons stay in view. Tap the headphones to return to the call. Tap the chat icon to open that conversation with the keyboard up. While you are already in that call, the button in the conversation is headphones too. Leave drops you out. Declining a channel ring does not end the conference for everyone else.

A locked phone uses the system incoming-call screen. Turn that off under More → Account → Ring this phone for calls. Answering on the website stops the phone ringing. A ring nobody picks up dismisses itself.
